Jin Daily Tech Trivia : Beijing Becomes the First No-Drone Zone (Not Even Sales Allowed)
The Beijing Municipal Regulations on the Management of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (北京市无人驾驶航空器管理规定) were officially released on March 27, 2026, and will take effect on May 1, 2026.
Under the new rules, all airspace within Beijing is classified as controlled airspace for drones, meaning every outdoor drone flight now requires prior approval.
At the same time, the regulations also prohibit the sale or rental of drones to individuals and organizations in Beijing, and ban the transportation of drones and core drone components into the city.
Following the new regulations, DJI has already stopped consumer drone sales in Beijing. Restrictions for commercial platforms, including blocking Beijing delivery addresses on Tmall and JD.com, have taken effect immediately to comply with the new security approval requirements for drone transactions.
