Jin Daily Tech Trivia - Tesla Remote Meter - Smart Charging @ Home
Tesla just listed a new #RemoteMeter for their Wall Connector.
Price: USD $210 (825 MYR)
It sits inside your home electrical panel and monitors how much power your house is using in real time. Then it tells the Tesla Wall Connector how much power it can safely pull.
So if your aircond, water heater, oven, washing machine all suddenly run together, the charger will slow down automatically.
When the house load drops at night, it pushes the charging power back up again.
Basically: smart charging without tripping your house.
Why this matters for Malaysia?
A lot of Malaysian landed houses are not exactly ready for high-power EV charging.
Many homes are still single-phase, older DB board, old wiring, and already running multiple airconds. Then you add a 32A EV charger and hope for the best.
That is how you get “why my whole house trip ah?” moment.
Normally, the answer is upgrade supply, upgrade DB, upgrade wiring, maybe even go three-phase.
Translation: more money.
So Tesla’s idea here is quite smart.
Instead of forcing everyone to upgrade the whole electrical system, just let the charger adjust based on real-time house load.
For Malaysian EV owners, especially older landed home users, this kind of dynamic load management might be more important than chasing the highest charging speed (22KW gang :P )
Because at the end of the day, the best charger is not the fastest one but the safest one.
