Daily AI Trivia: OpenAI Stops Development of AI Browser Atlas?

Remember when AI browsers were the new turf everyone wanted to grab? We had Comet, Arc, Atlas, and a bunch of others trying to take a slice of cake from Chrome.

But when Chrome finally launched GLIC, Gemini Live in Chrome, everyone suddenly realized one thing:

Building and maintaining a browser that can properly run, is a freaking hard job. (It can even serve LLM with liteRT.js O__O)

And if Google already owns Chrome + Gemini, what real advantage do these AI browsers actually have?

After a few months of experimenting, OpenAI seems to have reached the same conclusion:

The browser is a feature, not the destination.

So instead of trying to build a full browser, OpenAI is folding Atlas-style browser agent features into places people already work, including Chrome. And focusing on getting user to download it super feature pack ChatGPT Desktop app and control chrome directly in the app or on the operating system.

The AI browser war is not over.

It just moved back into Chrome.
