Jin Daily Tech Trivia : US Finally Fixing Daylight Saving Time

You know what is harder than debugging code? Scheduling calls with US folks.

“Is it 10am your time or 11am now?” “Did DST start already?” “Are you on PST, PDT, EST, or EDT?”

This is the silly pain of Daylight Saving Time.

DST was originally created to make better use of daylight, especially in the evening, and was later pushed during wartime to save energy.

But today, we live in a super connected world: Zoom calls, cloud systems, global teams, AI agents, calendars, flights, and APIs.

The US is now pushing a bill to make Daylight Saving Time permanent.

I really hope it passes.

And every country still doing DST should also seriously fix it.

In a connected world, time should be stable infrastructure. Not another bug we need to debug twice a year.

Just fix the time.
